Big East Week Nine: Entrees, Appetizers, and Skyline Chili!
While ABC serves up a helping of Bearcats, and Huskies Saturday night, we're serving up an offensive tackle-size helping of spaghetti topped with chili and cheese—Skyline style! Dig in, and get ready for some Big East football.
Connecticut (4-4, 1-3) at Cincinnati (8-0, 4-0):
This is a short schedule this weekend. The season is rapidly slipping away from the Huskies after two heartbreaking losses in the final minutes against West Virginia, then Rutgers. This game is probably more than UConn can chew. The Bearcats have climbed to the No. 5 slot in the BCS standings, and they're out to protect that position. Fact is, Cincinnati has too many weapons, and though the Huskies might hang in there early, look for Cincinnati to put on a show on national television.
This should be a light appetizer for the Bearcats, but there's nothing that says we can't pig out on some Skyline chili over our small portion of spaghetti as our pre-game meal!
Big Edge: Cincinnati
Louisville (3-5, 0-3) at West Virginia (6-2, 2-1):
The Mountaineers are happy to be back at home after getting crushed by South Florida and B.J. Daniels last week. Louisville is just what the doctor ordered for the boys from Morgantown to get back on track and keep their slim hopes alive in the Big East title hunt.
After being held to 42 yards on the ground by USF, look for Noel Devine to break loose on Saturday.
Louisville is out-manned, and outgunned in this one. This is a large serving of dessert for the Mountaineers.
Big Edge: West Virginia
Syracuse (3-5, 0-3) at Pittsburgh (7-1, 4-0):
How about a giant orange cupcake for the Panthers?
Don't look for any miracles at Heinz field Saturday. Just cover the 'Cuse with a good coating of ketchup, and watch the Panthers munch away.
Sorry, but can't give Syracuse much of a chance here. It's Pitt in a romp. A nice serving of dessert for the Panthers.
Big Edge: Pittsburgh
T here you have it, Big East fans. Not much to offer this weekend, but we'll make sure to tune in and check out that Cincinnati-UConn game Saturday night. See you on Monday when Professor Tom passes out the grades.
