An MVP-caliber performance in 2017 put Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz among the top players in the NFL. But after a second consecutive injury-shortened season, he barely cracked NFL Network's list of "Top 100 Players of 2019."

Wentz fell all the way down to No. 96 on this year's list, a 93-spot tumble from third overall a year ago:

Wentz was a front-runner for the NFL MVP award during his second season in 2017 as he led Philadelphia to an 11-2 record before suffering a season-ending knee injury. However, he missed the first two games of the 2018 season as he recovered from a torn ACL and the final five games (including postseason) due to a back injury.

When he was healthy enough to play last year, though, Wentz had no problem putting up strong individual numbers. He completed a career-high 69.6 percent of his passes for 3,074 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 11 games last season.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, those numbers did not translate into team success. Philadelphia was just 5-6 with Wentz under center. If not for backup Nick Foles stepping up and winning the final three games of the regular season, the team may have missed the postseason one year after capturing its first Lombardi Trophy.

Foles left for the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency this offseason, putting Wentz (and his health) firmly in the spotlight moving forward. And it's clear the fourth-year quarterback's peers believe he has something to prove—even with a record-breaking $128 million extension in the bag.

According to NFL.com's Logan Reardon, Wentz's 93-spot drop was the biggest of any player in the league.
