Big Weekend In Happy Valley

Allison BailNov 4, 2009

This upcoming weekend is a very big one for the Nittany Lion faithful.  With the rival Ohio State Buckeyes coming to town for a football showdown on Saturday, and the basketball team’s first exhibition game on Friday, Penn State sports fans will be far from bored.

The weekend is finally here, the team from Columbus is coming to Happy Valley.  This Saturday, the Ohio State Buckeyes and our Penn State Nittany Lions will face off in a huge Big Ten battle.

Both teams are tied for second with a 4-1 record in the conference.  They both still have hope for a Big Ten title, as they trail undefeated Iowa by one game with three games remaining.  The winner of this game still stays in contention for the conference title, and the loser becomes all but eliminated.

It's not like Penn State fans need any extra motivation when the hated Buckeyes come to town.  The rivalry and importance of the game is usually more then enough. However, there is a little more extra motivation this year to get Penn State fans fired up.

Just a few years ago, Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was the No. 1 ranked recruit in the nation.  He is from Pennsylvania, so obviously he was highly recruited by Penn State.

When he chose Ohio State, this left a very bitter taste with many Nittany Lion fans.  To add to this, Pryor claimed that Beaver Stadium was not as loud as everyone makes it out to be.  He said while on the sidelines at a recruiting visit, he expected the crowd to be a lot louder than it was.

Does this kid know what he is getting himself into?

For some fans, the sports weekend starts off on Friday at 6:00 at the Bryce Jordan Center.  Penn State Basketball, fresh off of their NIT championship, will play their first game of the year against Slippery Rock.  While this is just an exhibition game, it gives basketball fans their first look at this season’s team.

Following the game, the second Rally in the Valley of the season will be held.  There will be many big time recruits for both basketball and football here this weekend, so hopefully we can show them our passion for PSU sports!

I personally have been looking forward to this weekend for a very long time.   There’s nothing like playing Ohio State, especially when so much is on the line for the conference standings.  The campus has been buzzing all week, and I think we’re ready to get the must needed win.

By the way, let’s show Mr. Pryor how loud we really can be!
