Where It Begins: TNA Slammiversary Recap
Going into Memphis, there were so many questions that needed answering. At TNA's annual event Slammiversary, those questions were answered with more questions. Here now is the results from a very eventful night at Slammiversary.
Petey Williams defeats Kaz to retain TNA X Division Championship
Going into the match, Kaz had momentum on his side, but this would soon turn out to be pointless as "Maple Leaf Muscle" had the strength in numbers.
Rhaka Khan tried to interfere on several occasions to help Williams win, but it was just a diversion to help Scott Steiner come down with a steel pipe to clock Kaz on the cranium to help Williams get the win.
After the match, Steiner grabbed the mic and began talking trash to the fallen, bloodied Kaz and set up for another shot with the pipe. But all of sudden, the Monster Abyss made his return to TNA and saved his fallen comrade. He also nailed the Black Hole Slam on Steiner, Williams and Rhaka Khan.
He then picked up Kaz and carried him to the back.
ODB, Gail Kim, and Roxxi defeat The Beautiful People and Moose
LAX defeats Team 3D to retain TNA World Tag Team Championships
In what should have been a happy time for TNA wrestlers and fans, it was ruined by a surprising Twist of Fate. Led by wrestling legends Jake Roberts, George "The Animal" Steele, Kamala and Koko B. Ware, it was now time for the wedding of SoCal Val and "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal.
But triumph turned to tragedy as Sonjay Dutt ruined the wedding by objecting to the union and wanted SoCal Val to marry him instead. After an argument between the groom and the best man, Dutt attacked Lethal from behind, but was quickly ran off by the Groomsmen.
The wedding never happened, and this Thursday on IMPACT!, expect some serious payback from "Black Machismo."
AJ Styles defeats Kurt Angle
In one of the most anticipated matches of the night, The Prince of Phenomenal went crazy on Angle. After an attempted interference from Tomko, Angle looked to have the match won, but this is where Karen Angle's role became clear.
She grabbed a chair and was about to slide it in to Angle. As the Olympic Champion began to smile at the resurrection of his wife, she snatches the chair back, allowing Styles to recover long enough to nail the Styles Clash for the upset victory.
After the match, however, the male Angle snaps, and with the help of Tomko, he brutalizes Styles and locks in the Ankle Lock for good measure. As Karen leaves the ringside area, officials and security swarm the ring to get her husband off of her "husband" (if that makes sense).
The battle may be over, but the war between Styles and Angle is far from over as rumors are already swirling that all four players will be in attendance this Thursday on IMPACT!
Samoa Joe wins King of the Mountain Match
Not much of a recap for this match...that is until the final seconds of the match. With the match and the gold well in hand, it looked as if Booker T would add yet another championship to his resume. This was the case until the Special Enforcer lived up to his promise from earlier in the night.
Nash said earlier that he had to protect his investment, and Samoa Joe losing the championship was an investment he couldn't afford to lose. He proved that as he prevented the 5x WCW Champion and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion from adding the TNA Crown to his list of accomplishments.
In the end, Samoa Joe made the climb, hung the gold, and made history in the process as he became the first TNA World Champion to walk in with the gold and walk out with it as well. Though it was controversial, Joe didn't have a hand in the final outcome until it mattered.
After the show, he said one simple statement: "It all begins now."
With Booker T fuming from the defeat, how will he respond this Thursday? With the return of Abyss, the backstabbing of Sonjay Dutt, and Kurt Angle seething from his wife's betrayal, what will the major players of Slammiversary have in store when TNA returns to the IMPACT! Zone?
Tune in to TNA IMPACT! this Thursday night on Spike and log on to TNAWrestling.com for up to the minute updates.
