Lane Kiffin Jokes Nick Saban Is Never Retiring in Reply to Twitter Question
Former Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin apparently has some inside knowledge about Nick Saban's plans for the future.
Responding to a Twitter question from Ryan Fowler of 102.9 The Game about which current SEC coaches will outlast Saban, Kiffin had this answer:
Kiffin may be on to something, since Saban has always avoided talking about a potential retirement. The 66-year-old told ESPN.com's Chris Low in 2018 no one knows what he's thinking:
"That's what everybody keeps saying, that I'm not going to be doing this for much longer, and all the people who say it have no idea what I'm going to do. I've been involved in some fashion with football and being a part of a football team ever since I can remember. I don't know what it would be like not doing it, and don't want to know."
Despite a contentious relationship with Saban, at least on the field, Kiffin resurrected his career during three seasons as the team's offensive coordinator. He was coming off a disappointing 28-15 record as USC head coach from 2010-13 after he abruptly left Tennessee in 2009.
Kiffin parlayed his success at Alabama into becoming head coach at Florida Atlantic. The 44-year-old has gone 16-10 in two seasons with the school and is one of the best tweeters among college football coaches.
