Video: Fernando Alonso OK After Crashing into Indianapolis 500 Practice Wall
Fernando Alonso was able to escape his car unscathed following a crash during Wednesday's practice session for the Indianapolis 500.
Coming around high on a turn, his car made contact with the wall on three separate occasions and lost one of its tires before coming to a stop. Alonso was able to exit the car, and medics took him into the medical center for evaluation:
Fortunately, Alonso walked away from the crash without any significant injuries. He addressed what happened on Twitter, even teasing a possible return to the track later today:
Alonso, who drives the No. 66 for McLaren Racing Chevy, was the first driver to crash during practice for this year's race. The 37-year-old is making his second appearance at the Indianapolis 500 after finishing 24th in 2017.
The 2019 Indianapolis 500 will be held on May 26 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
