Former UFC fighter Anthony Johnson pleaded not guilty to charges of misdemeanor domestic battery on Wednesday, according to TMZ Sports.

The 35-year-old Johnson was arrested May 6 in Palm Beach County, Florida, after allegedly grabbing his girlfriend forcefully during an argument.

Per the report, Johnson told the arresting officers he lifted his girlfriend off her feet and removed her from the room while she attempted to pack his bags to throw him out of the house. The woman suffered no visible injuries, but she reportedly told police "she was scared due to (Johnson's) size and martial arts experience."

The charge carries a penalty of up to a year's jail time.

In 2010, Johnson pleaded no-contest to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge involving an ex-girlfriend and was sentenced to three years' probation, with criminal threats and damaging a cell phone charges dropped during the trial.

Four years later, the mother of two of Johnson's children obtained a restraining order against Johnson after telling police she suspected she was receiving threats from Johnson's friends. She also alleged Johnson hit her and knocked out two of her teeth in 2012.

At the time, the UFC suspended Johnson indefinitely, but he was reinstated after a Florida judge dismissed a civil case in November 2014 when the complaint was dropped voluntarily.

Johnson went on to compete until his retirement in 2017.
