Franco Baresi Says Aaron Ramsey Free Transfer Is a 'Great Coup' for Juventus
March 28, 2019
Italy legend Franco Baresi said Aaron Ramsey's capture on a free transfer is a "great coup" for Juventus.
The Arsenal midfielder has agreed a deal to join the Bianconeri at the end of the season after the Gunners withdrew their offer of a new contract.
Per BBC Sport, former AC Milan star Baresi said: "I've seen him play. He's obviously a great player. I think Juve has really landed a great coup there, and I'm sure he'll be able to adapt to Italian football."
The Welshman will leave the Gunners after more than a decade at the club, having joined from Cardiff City at just 17.
Juve have become adept at using free transfers to their advantage over the years:
The Bianconeri are on the verge of their eighth consecutive Serie A title, having built up a 15-point lead over Napoli with 10 matches remaining.
Adding Ramsey to their midfield options should make them even stronger next season.
Only Alexandre Lacazette has contributed more assists for Arsenal in the Premier League this season than Ramsey's six, and the Frenchman has started 21 games to the Wales international's 12.
Overall, Ramsey has eight assists in all competitions and four goals from 20 starts. Last season, he finished the campaign in double figures for both.
As well as his attacking contributions, Juve fans can also expect him to put in a shift defensively, as he did in Arsenal's recent 2-0 win over Manchester United:
Following the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo last summer, Juve will hope Ramsey's arrival can continue to enhance their prospects in the UEFA Champions League:
There aren't many teams in Europe that the Welshman would struggle to find a place in, so to have signed him for free is indeed a significant coup for the Italian side.
He'll improve the quality and depth of their options, so if he settles well in Italy there's no reason he can't be a success there.
