Vince Young 1-0 as Starter; Is Jeff Fisher on His Way Out in Tennessee?

Nick SignorelliNov 2, 2009

When the Tennessee Titans were eliminated from the playoffs last year, Jeff Fisher stated that his top priority in the offseason was to keep Kerry Collins as his starting quarterback.

Collins was promised that he would keep his starting job if he were to return to the Titans. Even with former first round pick Vince Young trying to work his way back into favor of the team, Fisher stuck with Collins.

The wedge between Young and Fisher starts to grow.

As the season started, and the Titans started losing games, Fisher stuck with Collins. As media outlets started asking the questions about Young, Fisher stuck with Collins.

When owner Bud Adams suggested that Young should play, well, what was Fisher supposed to do?

The wedge between Young and Fisher continues to grow.

I can see where Adams is coming from. He needs a proper evaluation of Young going into the future. Adams has come out and stated, numerous times, that Young was the franchise's future at the position. Young has one year left on his contract, and Adams needs to know if he can handle the responsibility.

As the rumor mill goes, Fisher told Collins that his hands were tied in the situation, further growing the wedge between Young and Fisher.

So, Young comes in and plays a smart game. He did not have to have a Manning-esque type of game, but he played smart. Young did not turn the ball over, he ran when he had to, and he threw the ball safe.

The fact is, when Vince Young is in the game, the opposing defenses have a lot more to worry about than they do when Kerry Collins is in the game. Young has amazing speed, and when all the receivers are covered, Young can take off and gain positive yards. Collins can't.

Young is the future of the Titans if he can continue to play smart football. The wedge between Young and Fisher is already in place. Will they both be back on the Titans' sideline next year?

Only time will tell, but if it comes down to one or the other, Bud Adams has already shown which side he is on.
