College FB Week 7 Preview: Illini, Zook Headed for a Fall
After a great start to the season—including a perfect 10-0 week—I've been feeling more like Robert Smith with my picks these last two weekends.
However, I'm confident that the upset trend will cool this week—and that we'll see a rather "boring" set of games this Saturday.
Don't worry, though. All the currently undefeated teams will be beaten this year—just not this weekend.
LSU at Kentucky
Kentucky and Andre' Woodson were exposed by South Carolina last weekend, while LSU proved they have the heart to win any game.
The Wildcats' defense must find a way to generate some turnovers if they want to stay in this one. With RB Raphael Little out, that still may not be enough.
My Pick: LSU
UCF at South Florida
The Golden Knights of Orlando already had their chance at the big upset this year. Unfortunately, they weren't able to pull it off.
South Florida was nearly upset last weekend against another instate rival. Couple that close call with film of the UCF-Texas game, and the Bulls will be more than ready.
My Pick: USF
Missouri at Oklahoma
If this game were at Missouri, and if Tony Temple were playing, the Tigers might have a chance.
However, Bob Stoops is 50-2 all-time in Norman, and will get another big win at home this weekend.
My Pick: Oklahoma
Illinois at Iowa
My pick of a Ron Zook loss last week was premature. How could I have been so dumb?
Now the hopes of the Illini fans are even higher—and the opponent is even lowlier. But Kirk Ferentz isn't one of the highest paid coaches in the game for nothing...
(Wait, why is he so highly paid?)
Logic says Illinois will roll here, and if this game were played on paper, that would be the case.
Unfortunately for Illinois, Zook is currently either eating sugar, water-skiing, or both—and not working on his game plan.
My Pick: Iowa
Auburn at Arkansas
Skeptics were expecting a letdown last week for Auburn after their big upset in the Swamp...but wound up being let down themselves.
Now the Tigers have to travel to Arkansas and square off against the run-only offense led by Darren McFadden and Felix Jones.
Auburn has already proven they can tread upon enemy soil and win.
My Pick: Auburn
Oregon State at Cal: Cal
Boston College at Notre Dame: Boston College
South Carolina at North Carolina: South Carolina
Arizona at USC: USC
Washington at Arizona State: Washington
