The Cleveland Browns announced the signing of free-agent offensive tackle Kendall Lamm on Friday.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported it's a two-year contract worth over $7 million for Lamm, who spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Houston Texans.

The 26-year-old signed with the Texans after going undrafted out of Appalachian State in 2015. He spent three years as a reserve lineman before getting his first shot at extended playing time last season. He appeared in 15 games, including 13 starts at right tackle.

Pro Football Focus graded him as the league's 52nd-best tackle for 2018.

In January, Lamm told Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle it was a difficult year on a personal level because his grandmother had cancer, but his on-field success was a bright spot.

"During the seasons, I try to block it out the best I can and take advantage of this opportunity. It's been a blessing," he said. "I will remember every season, but this will hold a special place for me, especially from the standpoint that many people said I couldn't do it."

Lamm is likely to compete with Chris Hubbard for the starting right tackle job in Cleveland. Hubbard was PFF's 50th-rated tackle last season, suggesting it's a toss-up competition heading into training camp.

The winner will take on a key role for one of the NFL's most promising offenses, led by quarterback Baker Mayfield and recently acquired superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
