Ducks spank Trojans while Longhorns munch Cowboys: Week Nine Awards
It was a weird and wonderful Week Nine. On the good side, Penn State won. On the bad side, referees took the center stage during the Iowa-Indiana game.
Anyway, here's the VFA's Week Nine Awards:
Performances of The Week Award:
1. Oregon steamrolls USC.
2. Oregon's crowd hits over 112 decibels while the Ducks are hammering USC.
3. Texas goes on the road and batters Oregon State.
4. Tennessee thumps South Carolina and proves that Stephen Garcia is a weak quarterback. Like we didn't know that already.
5. Florida puts up 40 on Georgia. My comments about Georgia possibly beating quiet? We'll shut up now!
Games Of The Week Award:
1. Miami 28, Wake Forest 27. Nail-biter until the last
2. Florida State 45, NC State 42. Over 1,000 yards of offense and 87 points scored. Track meet central.
3. California 23, Arizona State 21. A scorcher in the sun.
4. Rutgers 28, UConn 24. We all watched this one with a tear in our eye.
5. North Carolina 20, Virginia Tech 17. We didn't see that happening...
'We Didn't See That Happening' Award:
1. UNC beating Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Thursday night. Whoa.
2. Oregon hammering USC. We called the upset, not the blowout.
3. Texas mashing Oklahoma State. This is a good Texas team, boys
4. Auburn stopping Ole Miss. Jevan Snead. Overrated or what?
5. The refs in the Iowa vs Indiana game. How many calls can you screw up? We thought that the SEC had cornered the market in crap refereeing this week.
'Best Comment Of The Week' Award:
Rece Davis' comment on the Cocktail Party: "The World's Largest Whinefest About Something Somebody Did Last Year That Aggravated The Other Team".
'We Can't Wait' Award:
1. Ohio State at Penn State. Once again, Buckeye Nation walks into a White Out Wall of Hate. Please God, don't invite College Gameday.
2. LSU at Alabama. Two sides that absolutely hate each other, reunited under the flag of Saban. If 'Bama can't get their offense sorted, they've got problems. This one's for the SEC West title, people.
3. USC at Arizona State. This ones are already pretty fun. We were at the 2005 game between these two at Sun Devil—possibly the best game that season.
4. Navy at Notre Dame. Remember what happened last time these two faced off in South Bend?
5. Florida State at Clemson. Can the Bobby Bowden recovery continue?
And lastly...
Cheerleaders Of the Week:
1. Oregon
2. Florida
3. Georgia
