2 New Matches Including Strowman vs. Corbin Set for WWE Elimination Chamber 2019
February 12, 2019
WWE added two matches to Sunday's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
Baron Corbin will battle Braun Strowman in a singles match, while Bobby Lashley will put the Intercontinental Championship on the line when he teams with Lio Rush in a handicap match against Finn Balor.
Strowman is credited with a win over Corbin at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs in December, but it wasn't much of a match. The Monster Among Men was still recovering from elbow surgery and thus could do little in the ring.
The Monster has wanted to get his hands on Corbin for some time, and his fury toward The Lone Wolf indirectly cost him a chance to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble two weeks ago. He chased the former interim Raw general manager into Vince McMahon's limousine, and the WWE chairman took exception to seeing Strowman rip off one of the passenger doors.
The sooner Strowman can move on from this feud, the better. Sparring with Corbin is doing him no favors because The Lone Wolf has zero momentum. Few fans see him as a legitimate threat. The Monster Among Men won't gain much from a win on Sunday, no matter how dominant he looks.
Balor is in the same boat, to some extent.
At the Royal Rumble, the Irishman looked great in a losing effort against Lesnar. One night later, Lashley manhandled him on Raw, all but eliminating the momentum he generated at the Rumble.
Lashley is hitting his sweet spot as a heel who lets Rush do most of his talking, but the intercontinental title has lost much of the luster when Roman Reigns and The Miz held the belt through 2017 and into 2018.
Even if he beats Lashley, Balor will continue spinning his wheels for the most part on Raw.
