Barcelona have reportedly agreed terms with Eintracht Frankfurt forward Luka Jovic.

According to Frankfurter Allgemeine (h/t Sport), the La Liga side are now the favourites to secure the services of the Serbia international forward after holding talks with the player's representatives.

It's added Barcelona have taken a similar approach to this deal to the one they used to secure Frenkie de Jong from Ajax. It's reported De Jong, who will join the Blaugrana in the summer, agreed a deal with Barcelona before a price was finalised with the Dutch giants.

Discussing the report, sports journalist Manuel Veth noted there are other high-profile clubs also hoping to secure the signature of the player:

Jovic has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, where he is on loan from Benfica. Per Sport, Frankfurt have already made it clear they will activate an option in the deal that will allow them to purchase the 21-year-old outright.

For Barcelona supporters, the potential arrival of Jovic would be exciting, as he's starred for an impressive Frankfurt team this season.

As Scouted Football relayed, he's been one of the most productive young players in Europe in 2018-19:

OptaFranz broke down how effective Jovic has been with the time he's had on the field this season:

Alongside Ante Rebic and Sebastien Haller, Jovic has been part of an excellent attacking triumvirate at Frankfurt.

Whether used at the point of the attack or in a position just behind the centre-forward, he's been able to make a major impression. Jovic is not only excellent in front of goal, but he is good in the air, tidy in his link-up play and creative when he picks up possession in deeper areas.

That intelligence on the ball and versatility would make him a fine player to have in the squad for manager Ernesto Valverde.

Rafael Hernandez from Barcelona fansite Grup14 thinks Jovic's arrival would go some way towards an ideal summer of recruitment for the Blaugrana:

The centre-forward position is one Valverde will be seeking to bolster, too. While Luis Suarez remains effective and efficient, but at 32, he may not have many more years left at the highest level. Kevin-Prince Boateng was brought in on loan in January, but he is unlikely to represent a long-term option.

Jovic has shown enough to suggest he would be capable of fitting in at Barcelona, and he has the attributes to be a deputy for Suarez next season. The issue for the player would be being on the fringes of the squad, especially given how well he has performed when given regular minutes in 2018-19.
