Oregon Football Campus Voice: Freaks Out, USC In—Halloween in Eugene

k sOct 30, 2009

Now that the student ticket catastrophe has blown over and those of us left with out a ticket for the USC game have come to terms with reality, the Oregon campus is finally bursting with excitement.

The switch from anger to jubilation may have been sparked on Wednesday afternoon as Oregon’s own Green Man (pictured) danced, hollered, and ran around campus shouting encouraging statements to passing students.

As I walked down campus’ main drag, still steaming about not being able to attend Saturday’s showdown, I came upon Green Man displaying his enthusiasm, energy, and passion. Immediately my frown was turned upside down, literally, and I remembered that I could still cheer the Ducks on come Saturday.

By Thursday campus was swelling with anticipation.

I couldn’t go anywhere on campus without hearing a conversation about whether Oregon’s running game can get it going against USC’s defense, how the weather was going to impact Oregon’s complicated offense, or if USC’s freshman quarterback can handle the intensity of Autzen Stadium.

These were incredibly encouraging signs that the Oregon students had been revived from the early week turmoil.

As everybody knows by now, students are organizing a blackout for the game. The campus Duck Store is selling tons of the official blackout shirts and has had to order multiple shipments of them to keep up with demand.

However, the bigger and more interesting theme of the night will be the fact that it will be Halloween night.

If you don’t already know, Eugene is full of some of the craziest, most insane, off-the-wall people that you cant find anywhere else. With this in mind, during my years here in Eugene, Halloween is definitely the most intense and wild holiday weekend of the year.

Another reason for Duck fans to go crazy this weekend is the arrival of several very highly ranked and sought after recruits that will be partaking in the festivities at Autzen Stadium.

Oregon will be showing these young men Duck football at the highest level and with the fans being in the most frenzied of moods. I don’t see how they will be able to resist Eugene if Oregon can pull out the victory.

Headlining the prospects on Saturday will be the five-star, second rated high school running back in the nation Lache Seastrunk from Temple, TX. Also, Trovon Reed, a four-star wide receiver from Thibodaux, LA, and Dontae Williams, a four-star running back from Houston, TX.

Obviously this is a huge weekend for the present Duck team, but will also be very influential in the future of the program.

The game is now less than 24 hours away and Eugene is waiting very impatiently for tomorrow to arrive and for GameDay to showcase our great institution.

Until next time, GO DUCKS!!!
