CHG @ The Big House

The Crosshair Guide had the opportunity to visit the Big House last weekend at the University of Michigan. Here is what we took from our trip.

Good: Michigan fans were excellent hosts. They were knowledgeable about football. Michigan draws in students (many of them grad students) from all across the country. It really is a big boy academic school. Michigan Stadium has fantastic sight lines, every seat in the Big House has an excellent view of the game. The new addition of the stadium looks like it’s going to be a pretty nice place for the Wolverine high rollers. Michigan tailgate were pretty fun as well, great food was served leading up to the 3:30 kickoff. The white bean and pulled chicken chili served by some Wisconsin transplants was pretty special. Bloody Mary’s were done up correctly and really got the party scene rolling. Kegs were also allowed for tailgates, which really is a big plus.

Bad: We are going to have to nitpick here but the bathrooms for 106,000 have to be improved upon. Lines to get to your section also made it hard to get to the opening kickoff. The seats were tight but they weren’t as uncomfortable as we originally suspected. The Big House was not very intimidating nor was it very loud. Perhaps it was the weather, but the lack of noise has always been the knock on this stadium.

Ugly: Michigan Weather isn’t pretty (40’s and wet). The beautiful golf course that we tailgated on was completely trashed after the game. Like a scene out of nearby Detroit fires burning trash were in full flame upon our return.

Consensus: If you have a chance to go to the Big House go. It’s really a great place to watch a game. Michigan is the winning-est program in college football. Ann Arbor really was a progressive, intelligent town that offers a lot of activities for people of all ages ( it isn’t just for College kids). So even if the Buckeyes aren’t in town seeing a game at Michigan Stadium is special.
