Kentucky receiver Zy'Aire Hughes was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with a misdemeanor fourth-degree assault, per Jon Hale of the Louisville Courier Journal.

According to the arrest report, Hughes "intentionally caused physical injury to his girlfriend." The alleged victim had bruising and fresh scratches on her body.

"We’re aware of the situation," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said in a statement. "We’re in the process of gathering information. Proper behavior is an expectation of our program and we will address this as the facts are determined."

Hughes was a local 3-star recruit in 2016 considered the No. 5 player in Kentucky, per 247Sports, but he has played sparingly since coming to the school.

After redshirting his first year, he spent time at cornerback in 2017 before moving to receiver this season. He has 63 receiving yards and a touchdown this season.

The No. 14 Wildcats are scheduled to face Penn State in the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day.
