Caps Prospects Update (10/29)

Time for an update on where and what the Caps prospects are up to.   For a roster of the Washington Capitals top prospects, check out our Caps Page.  But, we do have a few.  Here they are:

Karl Alzner:  Karl Alzner was a 1st round pick of the 2007 draft.   He is a stay at home defensemen and one of the very top prospects in the Caps system.  He was assigned to Hershey (AHL) mostly because of salary cap implications.  In 9 games, he has not recorded a point and is +3.  Is expected to see ice time in Washington this season.

Francois Bouchard:  Francois Bouchard was a 2nd round pick of the 2006 NHL draft.  He has been assigned to AHL Hershey Bears.  In 8 games, Bouchard has 3 goals and 1 assist.  He has a 0 rating.

Joel Broda:  The Capitals selected Broda in the 5th round of the 2008 NHL Draft.  Broda is currently 19 years old and playing in junior hockey in the Western Hockey League for the Calgary Hitmen, Karl Alzner's former stomping grounds.  Broda has played in 13 games this season and has recorded 7 goals and 8 assists.  4 of Broda's 7 goals have been on the power play.

Greg Burke:  Greg Burke was taken in the 6th round of the 2008 NHL draft.  Burke is a freshman at the University of New Hampshire.  He has played in 5 games for the Wildcats.  He has recorded 1 assist and is a -2 rating.

John Carlson:  D John Carlson was a 1st round pick of the 2008 NHL draft.   Carlson is another super prospect in the Caps system that is considered to be NHL ready.  He has played in 9 games and has recorded 1 goal and 4 assists.  he has a power play goal and a +2 rating.   Expected to see at least a little ice time in Washington this year.
