My Thoughts On Week 7

Tyson BaileyOct 27, 2009

NFL update

Sorry about last week.  Had a lot of work, and was kind of in a funk after the Eagles lost to the Raiders

Saints - Nice come back win!  How bout that leap by Reggie Bush… If only he could play like that on every down?  Still the best team in the league right now

Dolphins – The wildcat looked pretty good for half a game.  I think now that the dolphins have a QB that can throw more then 10 yards they should try opening up the offense a bit, and rely on the wildcat a little less.

Giants – 2 Losses in a row, but still a threat every week.  I hope nobody  take this team for granted.   What is wrong with Jacobs…? Bradshaw looks like a better back right now. Maybe they should make him the starter and bring Jacobs in on short yardage plays?

Cardinals - There 4-2 now, and I see only 4 teams that might give them a game on there cupcake schedule. (Bears, Vikings, Packers…. And maybe the 49ers).   That is a 10-6 if they win when they are supposed to and if they loose to those teams.  They might not be great, but that is good enough to win the west again.

Bears – Remember when this team used to win games cause of its defense?  3 int’s by Cutler… Almost every Bronco’s fan I know is smiling… Cutler has to throw the ball almost 40 times a game because he has to keep up with the other team… not great when your best player is the running back.

Bengal’s – That seals it... the Bengal’s are the surprise team of the year in my book.  Yes the broncos have a better record,   but the Bengal’s have wins over Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Chicago.  While the bronco’s have wins over the Bengal’s (cause of a miracle play), Patriots, and Cowboys.   And play in a tougher division.  The sad thing is Marvin Lewis will get the credit, and not Palmer.  Get ready for another 3-4 years after this of being bad Cincinnati fans.

Falcons – They are good against teams that don’t have high powered offenses.  But average against teams that can score.  The cowboys showed that.  They are good, but almost all the good teams are high powered on offense.

Cowboys – all of a sudden 3 teams in the NFC East are 4-2.  Going to be a race all the way to the end.  I kept hearing this morning and last night that the cowboys knew what they had in Miles Austin.  I call B.S!!!! If they did, why the hell did they overpay for Roy Williams.  Even Patrick Crayton has better stats then Roy Williams.   Another statement to prove that they didn’t. Austin was a FA this summer and almost signed else where.  So the truth, no one on the cowboys had any clue that Austin could be this good but Austin.  ESPN quit giving credit were credit is not due, and Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips, quit trying to take credit for getting lucky.

Jets – Mark Sanchez got caught eating a hot dog while sitting on the bench… and had to issue an apology.   How dumb is that?  So what… it was 1 hot dog, and these guys work there butts of on game day and most of the week. Trust me, he is going to burn the calories.  When I first heard this, I was thinking, well maybe they don’t want him eating during the game period…but then I hear that they said it would have been ok if it was a power bar.  Sanchez didn’t have that great of a game, but trust me, that hot dog had nothing to do with it.  I would talk about the game, but well it was the raiders.

Raiders – Yes the biggest news that came out of this game was Sanchez eating a hot dog.  The reason? Well it is the raiders.  Yes I know the same raiders that found a way to beat my eagles…… what else can I say?

Bills – I said it last week (I didn’t do a football review, so you’ll just have to take my word) Trent Edwards going down may be a blessing in disguise.  Fitzpatrick played with a decent offense in St Louis a few years ago and knows how to throw the ball down field.  They still have Dick Jauron, but baby steps right?

Panthers – Delhomme has 4 TD’s this season to 13 Int’s.  D. Williams, and J. Stewart combined for 23 carries, while Delhomme let it loose 44 times in this game.   Does anybody else see what is wrong here?  Here is a hint… Lynch from Buffalo had more carries then D Williams, but averaged 3.2 yards less then Williams per carry.   Last year the Panthers went 13-3 behind a scary run game.  In fact Delhomme has already thrown 1 more int this year then he did total last year.  If he throws 2 more int this year then he will have the same amount as he had td’s last year.   Maybe the Panthers should play with the wildcat with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathon Stewart on the field at the same time? Couldn’t hurt, from what I can see the less Jake is on the field the better at this point.

Vikings – Tell me what you would do…. You have the best Running Back in the league.  Behind a monster offensive line, and a solid defense.  Already that is a recipe for success. So what does the Viking do? Let your 40 year old QB air it out 51 times.  Why not right? After all it is Brett Farve.  I have always said, as much as I hate Farve, if they let Peterson control the game and he just makes the plays he needs to (like against the niners) then this would be a good football team.  But I am starting to wonder if the Vikings recent success has gone to Farve’s and Childress head.  This is not a passing team!!!  I can’t help but think  the Vikings would have won this game if they would have kept Farve around 25, and ran the ball with Peterson and Taylor more.

Steelers – good win against a good team.  Are the Steelers back? Will there defense scored 14, which really helped a team that relies on there QB way to much.  If the Steelers defense is back, then this team is back.  My guess, Childress and Farve got carried away and helped out in the win more then the Steelers should take credit for.

Patriots – Seems like that offense is back right?  Or have they just played a couple of really bad defenses?  I say the second. But I still wouldn’t take them for granted. As long as Belicheck is there, they can beat any team on any Sunday.

Buccaneers - Still waiting to see Josh Freeman.

Chargers – there record tell you all you need to know about them.  They are average at best.

Chiefs - They will get there first win in 2 weeks, against Oakland.  And there 2nd win in week 15 against Cleveland.  And maybe there 3rd in week 17 against the bronco’s. (Because the broncos will be resting starters)

Colts – first time this year that manning hasn’t thrown for over 300 yards.  Against the rams, he could have thrown for under 100 and still won.  This is the team to beat in the AFC.

Rams – Poor St Louis Fans…. If you go winless this year, not only do you get to see what it feels like to live in Detroit, but you will also tie the record for the longest losing streak ever.  I’m hoping I get to see this happen.  Oh and thanks for Witherspoon, he just scored more points this week alone then your whole team.

49ers - Alex Smith got a chance to win the starting job back, and he did for at least 1 week.  I never thought Alex got a fair chance in San Fran. Maybe now that he has more of an offense, he can prove that he isn’t a total bust.  I’m rooting for ya Alex.

Texans – If I had to pick a team in the AFC as my team this would be it. There fun to watch, explosive, and every year they have a team on paper that is suppose to challenge.  I’m still not happy with the run game.  Slaton was supposed to add more balance to this team then he has.  With the fall of the Titans, I think this is the year they make the playoffs, but hell honestly, I have been saying that for the last 3 years… so most likely not

Packers – see what happens when you give Rogers time to throw the ball.  Green bay fans are wishing that every defensive line plays as bad as the browns did this year.  Too bad there not.  Rogers gets hit more then Big Ben, and doesn’t have the same type of playmakers around him.  Not a good sign if you ask me.

Browns – worst 1 win team! Derek Anderson must be the worst starting QB in the league. Yes worse then Russell and Delhomme.  That isn’t a compliment to either of them.  What’s that say about you Quinn?  Maybe he was just selling his house cause he realized he may be completely unemployed by the end of the year and wouldn’t be able to afford it? If so at least he is smart.

Eagles – Will at least they beat a team that they managed to lose to twice last year.  But yes we still lost to the raiders so I don’t feel any redemption at all.  Quit running the wildcat, it hasn’t done crap for us!

Redskin – was at work so I had to listen to this game on the radio… I hate listening to radio broadcasters.  They are so biased.  But these had to be the worst.  I felt like I was watching the game with a Redskins fan that thought he knew football, and thought he was a better coach then either on the field.  (He may be better then Zorn).  But you all know what I’m talking about.  You all have that friend that thinks he knows what he is talking about, but is totally full of crap.  Hell you just might be that guy to your friends.  I know I am!  But still I don’t want to listen to it on the radio!! Just call the damn game, and if you want to sound smart, then at least try to call it even, and not basically talk your team up and dog on the other.  Do that with your friends!!!
