The Cowboys Show in Week 7 That They Are A Team to Be Wrecking With.

ryan robertsOct 26, 2009

After Miles Austin's stunning 250 yd, two touchdown performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, many people started to turn their heads. However most believed it to be a fluke, a once in a lifetime performance against a less than average Chiefs team. However, those who watched him tear up the high powered Atlanta Falcons team on Sunday know better.

Dallas came out Sunday looking to prove to fans and the NFL that they were a contender, and that's exactly what they did. Against a smart, potent Atlanta Falcons team, the cowboys looked to the air once again, and miles Austin was there to deliver. So maybe a 171 yd game with six catches, 2 ending in touchdowns isn't 250 yards, but its not far off.

Many Dallas fans including myself have been pained to watch receivers like Micheal Irvin, Terrel Owens, and Jason Witten fail to bring the cowboys passed the first round of the playoffs in the last decade. However as Dallas takes a different approach this year, I cant help but become hopeful.

Few believed that the Dallas air game would survive without the presence that Big play receiver Terrel Owens brought, however so far this season they are wrong. As Dallas clocks in averaging a staggering 419.3 yards a game, they are trumped only by the New Orleans saints, who arguably have the best playing quarterback in the league right now.

Where did this success come from? Most know that Roy Williams hasn't exactly become the T.O. of Dallas, so what strategy has Dallas turned to? Easy, a two tight end spread resulting in Tony Romo throwing to an average of seven different receiver's a game. This offensive set has allowed Romo to spread the ball, something the Cowboys threatened to do last year. And as Austin moves into the starting position over Patrick Crayton, we all cant help but wonder that maybe Romo has found his 2009 big play receiver.

This success has come with injuries to pro bowl half back Marion Barber and Felix Jones, which has forced the cowboys to turn to the pass. The only two losses Dallas has suffered this year have been by less than a touchdown to the NFC east leading New York Giants, and the undefeated Denver Broncos.

So to those who thought T.O. would mark the end of the cowboys pass game, I ask you to look again.
