Ex-Raiders CB Sean Smith to Be Released from Jail Early in Assault Case
Former Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith will reportedly be released from prison earlier than expected.
According to TMZ Sports, Smith is expected to be freed Sept. 5 after he was sentenced to one year in jail and five years of probation in March stemming from a guilty plea to a felony count of assault likely to produce great bodily injury.
Smith entered the guilty plea after he was accused of assaulting his sister's then-boyfriend, Christopher Woods, in July 2017.
The 31-year-old, who played for the Kansas City Chiefs between 2013-15, signed a four-year, $40 million deal with the Raiders in March 2016.
He was released by Oakland in March.
If Smith pursues an NFL comeback, he will be subject to discipline under the league's personal conduct policy.
