Seattle Seahawks star Earl Thomas is heading toward the final year of his contract, but he doesn't want to wait on a new deal. Unfortunately for Thomas, the team doesn't appear ready to budge.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network provided the latest rumors on the situation:

The Seahawks-Earl Thomas staredown is almost upon us. The Hawks’ reluctance to do a deal right now doesn’t mean they don’t want to do one at some point. Thomas is trying to force their hand, though. https://t.co/CH4VfLsRWf

The safety announced in June that he would not be participating in any team activities until his contact situation is resolved.

He continued to try to push the situation on Instagram last week when he said he wants to his contract extended, but "if you don’t want me let’s make a trade happen."

Despite his pressure, Garafolo reported the Seahawks likely won't agree on a new deal until he reports to camp, similar to what happened with Kam Chancellor. He noted defensive end Frank Clark is also a target for an extension.

Thomas has certainly proved himself on the field, earning six Pro Bowl selections in the last seven years. His 88 tackles last season also ranked third on the team.

However, the 29-year-old has missed seven games due to injuries in the past two seasons. The team could also be looking to get younger, especially with fellow defensive backs Richard Sherman and Chancellor no longer on the roster.

With a $10.4 million cap hit for 2018, per Spotrac, a lot is riding on what the Seahawks decide to do with Thomas.
