Leonardo Bonucci's Agent Reportedly Meets with PSG Amid Transfer Rumours
The agent for AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci has reportedly met with Paris Saint-Germain representatives to discuss a possible transfer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football Italia), while some preliminary talks have taken place about a switch with the player's representative Alessandro Lucci, Bonucci is not yet sure if he wants to leave Milan just a year on from making a surprise move from Juventus.
It's added a salary for the player has been discussed as part of the initial talks between the Italian and French champions.
As relayed by Footballย Italia, Milan are waiting on the result of an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to see if they can compete in European football next season.
Theย Serieย A side were banned from taking part in theย UEFAย Europa League after a breach of financial fair play rules, andย Bonucciย is said to be waiting on the outcome of the appeal before making a decision.
Milan's signing ofย Bonucciย last summer came as a major shock, with the defender rated as one of the best centre-backs in the world at the time.
As noted by journalist Davidย Amoyal, in the past,ย Bonucciย has opted to remain in Italy when other offers may have been on the table:
Still, despite the arrival of the Italian and a number of other big names, Milan had a season of major ups and downs.
After parting ways with managerย Vincenzoย Montellaย and appointingย Gennaroย Gattuso, they were eventually able to finish in sixth place in theย Serieย A table. However, it remains in doubt whether they will take up their European place.
Bonucci's own form was inconsistent throughout the season, as he initially struggled in a team full of unfamiliar faces. His form did improve as the season went on, as the centre-back started to more closely resemble the force he was atย Juventus.
Milan will be hopeful he's still around to provide that influence next term.
Perย OptaPaolo,ย Bonucciย has so much experience inย Serieย A matches and with the national team:
The chance to move toย PSGย and potentially work with formerย Juveย team-mateย Gianluigiย Buffonย would be an exciting one forย Bonucci, especially givenย PSGย are equipped to challenge for theย UEFAย Champions League next seasonโa trophy the defender has not yet won.
Italian football journalist Matthewย Santangeloย can find a number of reasons why the 31-year-old would want the move:
PSGย haveย Thiagoย Silva andย Marquinhosย as their centre-back duo, with 22-year-oldย Presnelย Kimpembeย typically third choice. Ifย Bonucciย was going to come in, he'd provide even more depth to this stacked area of the squad.
Still, he'd surely go straight into theย PSGย team if he was to arrive. The leadership, technical ability and defensive aggression he has shown down the years would make him a fine signing.
