Thunder: Less Than Impressive.
The NBA pre-season has been less than impressive for the thunder fan.
although there has been some improvement from some individuals its far from what i'v expected, yes you can say its only pre-season but thats just avoiding the truth. almost after every game i have been saying "well, its only pre-season", Durant, Green and Westbrook didn't play their minutes.
pre-season or no pre-season it was the lack of defensive effort i saw out on the floor. giving up around 100+ points a game (just a guess). which will reflect in the regular season.
there was so much hype, atleast for me there was, about this team possibly getting into playoffs. however nothing thus far has shown me that this team is getting even remotely close to 8th seed. that being said im not giving up on my team.
Rookie James Harden didn't have that performance i was looking for where he broke out and dropped 20+. although i still like Harden and believe he will start during the season at one point of time
pre-season is about the 2nd and 3rd unit and what i was its clear to me that this team cannot go anywhere with the bench we have. countless times we lost games because of the bench. there was no production on both ends of the floor. Shaun Livingston i was hoping he could get back into what he was but it wasn't happening.
The two big men i was most looking forward to was DJ white and Serge Ikaba. Ikaba I already counted out because of his poor effort in the summer league. however this was not the case, he performed great and i am looking forward to see him get some game time this season. he also showed that his athleticism is not a myth, he can get up.
I am really solid on white and i guess Sam Presti is also. exercising his 3rd year on his contract. he has a solid turn around jumper and a nice little hook shot. he can also get up and down the court
I was most impressed with Russell, as most of you know he has cut down his turn overs tremendously and his assist have sky rocketed. i saw that him getting assists is taking away his production on offense and was looking for his shot as much as i would like him to. if i remember correctly he only took over 10+ shots once though out the whole pre-season, is he sacrificing too much?
all in all it could be too much to tell just by preseason games, maybe im being to harsh but this team still need 1-2 years before the playoffs, however i hope im wrong.
