Real Madrid Transfer News: Isco Shuts Down Summer Exit Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenMay 18, 2018

Real Madrid star Isco has moved to shut down the transfer rumour mill before it had the chance to jump into action, saying he is "in the right place" for his career.

Per Marca, he also touched on the UEFA Champions League final against Liverpool on May 26: "I'm young and I'm not content with anything; I want to keep aspiring to the maximum and I'm in the right place. We are in the final for another year, and it is very important to continue at this high level. We are hoping to achieve our third consecutive title. Both the players and the fans are very excited."

MADRID, SPAIN - MAY 12: Karim Benzema (L) of Real Madrid CF looks on with his teammates Toni Kroos (2ndL) and Francisco Roman Alarcon alias Isco (R) during their warming up prior to start the La Liga match between Real Madrid and Celta de Vigo at Estadio

Transfer rumours have become a way of life for Isco, who is seemingly linked with a move to the Premier League during every single window. Manchester City were said to be suitors earlier this season, although Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News reported the Sky Blues will not chase the former Malaga man this summer.

The speculation makes sense, as Isco has spent the bulk of his career in the Spanish capital as a depth option, rotation piece or starter near the bottom of the pecking order. He's never been one of the top stars at the club or an untouchable in the starting XI.

This season has been no exception, despite his tremendous success on the pitch:

The 26-year-old has started 20 La Liga matches but often found himself on the bench whenever Real faced their biggest hurdles. He didn't feature in the recent Clasico against Barcelona on May 6 and only played 45 out of a possible 180 minutes in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Bayern Munich.

Manager Zinedine Zidane tends to give Gareth Bale as many chances as possible and tries to rotate his other options.

When he has played, Isco has impressed. Real shared this highlight reel of the midfielder doing his thing:

Isco appears to have accepted his role in the capital rather than push for a move to a club that could offer him a bigger one. These latest comments won't silence the rumour mill completely or keep interested teams from sounding him out, but in all likelihood, he'll stick at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
