Former Kentucky basketball player Bret Bearup was found dead Thursday at the age of 56, per the Lexington Herald-Leader's Jerry Tipton.

A cause of death has not been specified. Tipton reported Bearup's family "became concerned this week" when he didn't return their calls.

Bearup spent four seasons in Lexington playing for the Wildcats under former head coach Joe B. Hall.

During that time, Bearup averaged 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the field.

Tipton reported Bearup was recently living in Denver and working for Stan Kroenke, who owns the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Rams.
