Robert Covington Underwent Surgery on Finger Injury, Re-Evaluated in 2-3 Weeks

Philadelphia 76ers forward Robert Covington underwent surgery on his middle finger Thursday and will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks. 

Per the official announcement from the team, the procedure was to repair the extensor tendon in Covington's left middle finger. He originally suffered the injury during a Dec. 28 game against the Portland Trail Blazers. 

Covington has been a steady performer for the Sixers, averaging at least 12.6 points per game in each of the past four seasons. He didn't miss any time after suffering the finger injury this season.

Instead, Covington started a career-high 80 games to help Philadelphia reach the postseason for the first time since the 2011-12 season. His field-goal percentage (41.3) and three-point percentage (36.9) were the second-highest marks of his five-year NBA career. 

The 27-year-old struggled in the postseason with 8.1 points per contest, and he shot only 32.5 percent in 10 games against the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics.
