Warriors' Draymond Green on Game 1 Technical Foul: 'I Was a Bit Overzealous'

Scott PolacekMay 14, 2018

Draymond Green wasted little time making an impact in the Golden State Warriors' 119-106 victory over the Houston Rockets in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, but it probably wasn't the type of impact head coach Steve Kerr was looking for.

The Michigan State product was whistled for a technical foul a mere one minute and seven seconds into the contest at Toyota Center on Monday for pushing James Harden after the Rockets' go-to option scored a layup.

"I was a bit overzealous, a bit amped up, but I'd rather that anyway than coming out flat," Green said of the play, per NBA TV:

He didn't stop expressing his emotions there and was seen screaming at officials a number of other times in the first quarter alone. He was playing with fire, considering another technical would have ended his night early, but he avoided a second and impacted the game in a number of ways outside of scoring.

Green finished with five points, nine rebounds, nine assists, two blocks and two steals, consistently finding his teammates from the high elbow while also battling Clint Capela for rebounds.
