Oscar De La Hoya Says Gennady Golovkin Doesn't Want to Fight Canelo Alvarez
Oscar De La Hoya has laid down an ultimatum for Gennady Golovkin, saying that Canelo Alvarez will be fighting in September even if it is not against the Kazakhstani.
He told TMZ Sports that Golovkin "doesn't want to fight" but said his priority is still "to make Canelo-GGG."
He added, "Regardless, Canelo's fighting in September, and he's going to fight the toughest guy out there. But we want Triple G, that's for sure."
Golovkin, 36, and Alvarez met for the first time last September, with their world middleweight title fight ending in a controversial draw.
They were set to have a rematch on May 5 before Canelo, 27, withdrew in April after testing positive for the banned substance clenbuterol.
His six-month suspension will end August 17, allowing for a potential rematch with Golovkin to be scheduled for Mexican Independence Day weekend in mid-September, per ESPN's Dan Rafael.
