Real Madrid Transfer News: Mohamed Salah Wage Demands Rumoured

Tom SunderlandMay 13, 2018

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is reportedly demanding an annual salary of £13 million if he's to leave Anfield this summer, but matching that figure could cause a rift at Real Madrid.

Diario Gol reported he would seek around that fee—equal to £255,000 per week—to move in successive summers, but Madrid captain Sergio Ramos would demand his own wage increase if they meet Salah's wishes (h/t James Walters of the Daily Express).

According to the report, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is on board with paying up to acquire Salah's signature, but whether he'll risk a disagreement with Ramos, 32, over his wages is another question.

Any claims of wage demands being made appear in contrast to the behaviour of Salah and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, whom Sky Sports' La Liga expert Guillem Balague recently said were united in the Egyptian staying:

Salah set a new record for goals scored in a 38-game Premier League season as Liverpool beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 on Sunday, where he netted his 32nd strike of the campaign to break Alan Shearer's 22-year-old standard.

Not even Liverpool likely knew the quality they were purchasing when they brought former Chelsea flop Salah back to England from AS Roma last summer, and Eurosport UK chronicled a terrific return to the Premier League:

Madrid already have an attack comprising numerous offensive superstars, but a slow start to their La Liga title defence will have sown some doubt that top-class reinforcements are required.

Cristiano Ronaldo is still the gem of their front line but is 33 years of age and sure to begin his decline in the coming years, and Gareth Bale's place under manager Zinedine Zidane has been questioned. The future of striker Karim Benzema, 30, could also be in doubt after a slow season in front of goal (five league goals).

Which leaves Marco Asensio, 22, and Lucas Vazquez, 26, the former of whom has struggled to kick on from the heights of last season, while the latter has started to curry favour as a valuable asset in Madrid's XI.

For Salah to arrive, one of those aforementioned stars would likely need to leave the squad, although Salah has demonstrated the kind of match-winning credentials that would see him become an upgrade almost anywhere, per Goal:

BT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas backed Salah to beat the £105 million that took Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January and said he could be valued as high as £150 million (h/t James Benson of the Daily Express).

The cost of that transfer combined with Salah's reportedly high wage demands and Ramos' apparent requirements would make this an impossible deal for most clubs, but Madrid under pressure can't be ruled out as such.
