Knicks Rumors: Howard Eisley, Nick Van Exel Considered for Coaching Staff Roles
David Fizdale is starting to fill out his staff for the New York Knicks, with two members of the Memphis Grizzlies coaching crew being considered for jobs.
Per ESPN.com's Ian Begley, Howard Eisley is considered "highly likely" to be part of Fizdale's staff. Keith Smart and Nick Van Exel are "strong candidates" to join the group, but nothing has been finalized.
Eisley has been with the Knicks since 2016, working as an assistant for former head coach Jeff Hornacek.
Smart and Van Exel joined Fizdale's coaching staff when he was hired as head coach in Memphis prior to the 2016-17 season. They remained with the Grizzlies after Fizdale was fired in November following a 7-12 start.
Newsday's Al Iannazzone reported Memphis gave New York permission to speak with Smart.
The Knicks hired Fizdale on Monday after going 60-104 in two seasons under Hornacek. New York hasn't made the postseason since 2012-13.
