Ichiro Suzuki After Getting Text from Tom Brady: 'Who the F--k Is Tom Brady?'

Mike ChiariMay 9, 2018

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is among the most popular and recognizable athletes in the world, but future Hall of Fame outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is oblivious to the five-time Super Bowl champion.

In an article written for The Athletic on Wednesday, Peter Gammons (h/t Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal) shared a story about a text Ichiro received from Brady during spring training in 2017:

Ichiro had no idea that the man asking to study his stretching regimen was one of the greatest players in NFL history, as the Japanese star said, "Who the f--k is Tom Brady?"

Brady is a 13-time Pro Bowler and three-time NFL MVP who will undoubtedly be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot just five years after he decides to retire.

Ichiro is an all-time great in his own right with 10 All-Star appearances, 10 Gold Gloves, two batting titles and one American League MVP award.

He also has 3,089 career MLB hits, and when combining them with his 1,278 hits in Japan, he has the most hits in the history of professional baseball.

While Brady, who turns 41 in August, is still going strong and coming off another MVP season, Ichiro transitioned to a front-office role with the Seattle Mariners last week, and it is possible that the 44-year-old's playing career has reached its conclusion.
