Preakness 2018 Post Time: Start Time, Schedule and More for 143rd Race

Kentucky Derby champion Justify will again be fancied to dominate in the second leg of the Triple Crown when the 143rd edition of the Preakness takes place at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday.

Justify beat a strong field at Churchill Downs, but a new set of contenders will provide strong competition in Baltimore, Maryland. Diamond King, Bravazo and Quip are among those to watch.

Justify is the betting favourite, per BovadaLV (h/t OddsShark). It's a status the gifted colt merits after leaving rivals trailing by two-and-a-half lengths in Louisville.

Recent form isn't the only thing Justify has going for him, though. The presence of trainer Bob Baffert can also be pivotal in the colt's bid for the Triple Crown.

Baffert trained the last Triple Crown winner when American Pharoah accomplished the feat in 2015. Superior power can set Justify apart from Pharoah, according to Baffert, per Childs Walker of The Baltimore Sun:

"Justify is a massive horse, about 100 pounds heavier than Pharoah was for his Derby, and his athleticism is stunning for his size. Baffert compared him to LeBron James in that sense. With Pharoah, he always talked more about the stride than the body."

Justify's case for another memorable win is strengthened further by the fact several prominent horses won't be involved in Pimlico. Walker noted how Todd Pletcher-trained Audible, along with Mendelssohn, Bolt d'Oro and My Boy Jack will all skip the Run for the Black-Eyed Susans.

While some big names have opted to miss out, Kentucky runner Lone Sailor will be involved, as will Good Magic, the runner-up by two-and-a-half lengths at Churchill Downs.

Meanwhile, Bravazo, winner of the Grade II Risen Star Stakes, will feature, along with Diamond King.

There is still some talent in the field, although it's doubtful any horse will be able to match Justify's speed and strength on the shorter, nine-and-a-half furlong track in Baltimore.
