Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson Entertain Idea of Possible High-Stakes Match

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are grouped together at The Players Championship this week, providing plenty of intrigue for golf fans.

Lefty has an idea to up the competition between he and his rival: a high-stakes match.

"Now I don't know if he wants a piece of me," Mickelson said, via ESPN.com's Bob Harig. "But I just think it would be something that would be really fun for us to do, and I think there would be a lot of interest in it if we just went straight to the final round.''

Tiger's thoughts? 

The two veteran golfers have been viewed as rivals, but these days, they have been more friendly. Not only did they have some fun during Tuesday's press conferences, but they also took part in a practice round at the Masters back in April.

Mickelson was asked about playing with Woods in the past, and he acknowledged that it was tough competition, saying that nobody has ever played golf better than Tiger did in his prime (Starts at the 8:07 mark):

Woods has not won a major in nearly a decade and does not have a Tour win since 2013; it's been about five years since Mickelson's last major, and his victory at the WGC-Mexico Championship in March was his first Tour win in more than four years.

These golfers may not be at their peak anymore, but when they get together, it's must-see television. Up the stakes? Yes, please.
