Liverpool Transfer News: Suso Snubs Reds Return Despite Release Clause Rumours

Tom SunderlandMay 8, 2018

A return to Anfield isn't on the agenda of AC Milan forward Suso, who has revealed his desire to remain at the San Siro despite speculation Liverpool would be willing to pay his £35 million release clause.

The Mirror's Aaron Flanagan reported Jurgen Klopp wants the Spaniard to come back to Merseyside three years after he left for Italy, but Suso was resolute when asked by Tuttosport for his opinion on a Reds reunion:

“I have always said that I am very well here, that I found myself very well and that there is nothing that can make me think I have to leave.

“The team and if the company wants to grow with me, I will be happy because now Milan is my home.

"We do not have to start over from scratch again. There is finally a base on which to add new elements, [manager Gennaro] Gattuso knows what should be right and we'll start from that point."

The 24-year-old joined Liverpool in 2010 and scored once in 21 appearances while on their books, but Italian football writer David Amoyal emphasised how he's taken on a role of much greater responsibility in Milan:

Still, one could easily argue Suso would still fail to warrant a starting place at Liverpool ahead of current wingers Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, so it would be hard to justify spending £35 million on a rotation alternative.

Suso's apparent objection to a Merseyside return combined with Liverpool's lack of need to sign him means the transfer isn't looking likely, and Sport Witness recently put the gossip merry-go-round in simple terms:

And it's evident some Anfield supporters have taken notice of the strides he's made since moving to the San Siro, per a BT Sport poll earlier in the season:

Suso has scored eight of his 15 Milan goals this season alone and contributed 14 assists in all competitions. His seven Serie A assists this term is a high for any Milan player, while he's scored only two league goals fewer than top Rossoneri scorer Patrick Cutrone (eight).

The attacker is seemingly eager to see that progress continue and is ready to turn down the chance of a Liverpool return in preference of a Serie A stay.
