Manchester United Transfer News: Justin Kluivert Reportedly Makes Ajax 'Demands'

Manchester United's pursuit of Ajax winger Justin Kluivert has reportedly taken a turn after the teenager revealed his contract demands to the Dutch giants, including a portion of his future transfer fee.

Kluivert, 19, and is said to have asked for an annual wage of €1.5 million (£1.3 million), as well as 20 percent of his transfer fee and 20 percent for his agent, Mino Raiola, per De Telegraaf (h/t MailOnline's Danny Gallagher).

Raiola has a mixed recent history with United. He represents Romelu Lukaku, who has had good success in his first season at Old Trafford, as well as Paul Pogba and now-departed duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. 

Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur confirmed the list of requirements for Kluivert to extend his stay in Amsterdam, and it's of little wonder the club are eager to pen new terms given his current deal expires in one year:

This leaves Ajax with three obvious options: They can give in to the extravagant demands of a youngster, two seasons into his senior career, in the hope of securing a larger fee at a later date. However, this could be seen as a breach of the club's usually modest code.

Alternatively, Ajax may decide to cut ties now and sound out potential suitors to make as much money as they can while interest in Kluivert is high. In this scenario, they would not have to concede in the contract battle. 

Which ties into the third option, which is to keep Kluivert at the club. They could convince him to agree on a contract compromise later on or let him leave for nothing when his contract expires next year failing that.

The son of Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert is gaining traction as a promising force who could recapture the quality his father possessed. Goal recently profiled one of the Eredivisie's brightest emerging prospects:

There is a question of how badly United need another young player on the left wing, however, with Anthony Martial, 22, and Marcus Rashford, 20, already struggling to adequately share time behind Alexis Sanchez.

Kluivert, who has scored 10 goals in 30 Eredivisie appearances this season, has shown proficiency on the right wing too. He contributed a match-winning assist from that area in a 2-1 win over Groningen in April:

The alleged contract demands could hurt or help United in trying to sign Kluivert this summer, but it may also force him to see out the last year of his deal at Ajax ahead of a renewed approach in 2019.

Dutch football writer Michael Bell provided quotes from Ajax chief executive officer and former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who stressed his disappointment at the recent developments involving Raiola:

The super-agent renowned for his hard-ball tactics will impact transfer proceedings by pushing Kluivert to request a combined 40 percent of his future transfer fee. Under those terms, the Godenzonen would receive only £18 million of a £30 million sale, for example.

United will simply hope it improves their chances of recruiting a growing European wonderkid already capped by the Netherlands, as Raiola looks to again have influence on a new arrival at the Theatre of Dreams.
