Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers Game 4 Odds, Analysis, NBA Betting Pick

OddsShark.comMay 7, 2018

The second-seeded Boston Celtics will go for a sweep of the third-seeded Philadelphia 76ers on Monday when they visit them as underdogs for Game 4 of their NBA Eastern Conference second-round playoff series.

The Celtics have taken each of the first three games versus the 76ers straight up as underdogs, and they have also won six of the past seven meetings SU and against the spread dating back to the regular season, according to the OddsShark NBA Database.

NBA point spread: The 76ers opened as six-point favorites; the total is at 204.5, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. (Line updates and matchup report)

Why the Celtics can cover the spread

Boston was not supposed to be in this position without injured All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, but the heart of his teammates, along with the moves made by head coach Brad Stevens, have put this team in position to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Celtics have seen players such as Terry Rozier step up throughout the playoffs, and rookie Jayson Tatum has turned into a star in his first postseason. Tatum scored a game-high 24 points in a 101-98 overtime win over Philadelphia in Game 3 on Saturday, as Stevens pushed all the right buttons again en route to another victory.

Why the 76ers can cover the spread

The 76ers still have what many believe to be a more talented team, and they should at least be playing for pride in this situation, regardless of knowing that nobody has ever rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to win an NBA playoff series.

They will also be playing at home, where they had the second-most wins in the Eastern Conference during the regular season.

The fans helped them rally and tie up Game 3 in the final seconds of regulation time only to see Boston hold on in OT after blowing an early 10-point lead. If Philadelphia can turn the tables and start off better, this series will go to a Game 5.

Smart betting pick

In the last five wins for the 76ers, they have covered the spread each time. This is a team that went 20-1 SU in its previous 21 games before losing the series opener and has not lost more than three straight since December 23.

Philadelphia will win Game 4 to avoid the sweep and also cover the spread in the process to stay alive in the series.
