Jason Day Says LeBron James' Buzzer-Beater Inspired Him to Win Wells Fargo
Jason Day drew inspiration from Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James as he wrapped up the Wells Fargo Championship title Sunday at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
After the tournament, Day told reporters he watched a replay of James' buzzer-beater against the Toronto Raptors from Saturday night before he took to the course Sunday. The PGA Tour shared Day's comments:
While a native of Australia, Day and his wife Ellie also reside in Westerville, Ohio, and are fans of the Cavaliers. The pair got a little too up close and personal with James in December 2015 when he stumbled into the courtside seats and fell into Ellie Day.
Day wasn't the only golfer at Quail Hollow who looked to James as source of motivation. Aaron Wise finished tied for second with Nick Watney and compared his final stretch of the tournament to the way in which James tries to close out a big game.
"Me and my caddie actually talked about it," Wise said, per Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. "We made the turn going to 10, it's that crunch time, it's like the second half with LeBron. It's an attitude you have to carry with yourself that you can get it done and I was able to do that today."
