Jayson Tatum: 'Just Joking' About Joel Embiid Getting Lucky on Massive Dunk
Boston Celtics rookie Jayson Tatum played down any animosity between he and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid after he was seen trash-talking the 2018 All-Star during Saturday's 101-98 overtime victory.
In the fourth quarter, Embiid fouled Tatum as the first-year guard was on the verge of throwing down a massive right-handed jam. The ESPN cameras caught Tatum telling Embiid he "got lucky" to avoid getting posterized:
Tatum discussed the sequence Sunday.
"[Jaylen Brown] got the offensive rebound and he passed to me cutting through the lane, and I knew Embiid was coming," he said, per ESPN.com's Chris Forsberg. "I just tried to catch him slipping real quick. I don't really talk trash, and I was just joking. Me and [Embiid] got the same trainer, so we know each other pretty well."
Tatum and the Celtics will certainly have the last laugh on Embiid and the Sixers if they close out the series in Game 4 on Monday night.
