Justify joined the ranks of Bob Baffert-trained horses on Saturday as the lightly raced horse won the 144th Kentucky Derby.
The last Baffert-trained horse to win the Derby was American Pharaoh in 2015.
Justify overcame the most extreme weather elements in the Derby's history. According to Sports Illustrated, there was a flash flood warning issued in Louisville, Kentucky:

From the very beginning of the race, Justify was in a good position.
Jockey Mike Smith held position despite his horse being slightly knocked around.
After that, Justify launched to second place, just behind Promises Fulfilled. As they went around the far turn, Justify used the leverage of being outside of Promises Fulfilled and passed him.
And there was no looking back.
Justify coasted to the finish, beating both Good Magic and Audible by 2 ½ lengths.
Despite not racing as a two-year-old, Justify's build allowed to overpower the competition.
In fact, Justify becomes the first horse since 1882 to win the Derby despite not racing as a two-year-old, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN:
One of the more favorited horses, Mendelssohn (6/1), was purchased for $3 million but unfortunately finished dead last, losing by more than 73 lengths.
Unlike Justify, Mendelssohn got knocked back and stayed back for the whole race.
After the race, Baffert went on to say: "When he got away clean, I thought we had a chance. He was doing it easy. Him, American Pharoah, these are great horses and it took a great horse to win today. I rank him Justify up there with my top ones. This track had me worried, but wow, he just had a run."
