Cyborg Follows McGregor's Blueprint, Wants Superfight vs. 33-0 Boxing Queen

Nathan McCarterMay 7, 2018

Conor McGregor angled for, and got, his superfight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. that laid the groundwork for numerous MMA stars to call their shot. Cris "Cyborg" Justino is the latest to jump into the fray by calling out 33-0 champion Cecilia Braekhus.

The pound-for-pound best female fighter on the planet sat ringside in a "Cyborg vs. Braekhus 2019" T-shirt on Saturday at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, for Cecilia Braekhus' unanimous-decision win over Kali Reis.

She spoke with Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole (h/t MMAFighting.com's Jed Meshew) about her intentions. "Of course I need time for training. I think four to six months of training. And it's gonna be maybe perfect because I have two fights left in MMA," Cyborg said.

Cyborg told Iole in the interview that she will not look to sign a new deal with the UFC after her two remaining contests and will focus on the boxing tilt after those two outings.

Braekhus is happy to oblige the offer. The undefeated boxing star was at Cyborg's fight against Holly Holm and said her performance "tickled me for a fight against Cyborg," per FightHub TV.

The champ said she may return to the cage following her foray into boxing, but the Braekhus fight is her dream.

The potential Cyborg vs. Braekhus fight would not break box-office records, but it could end up being the highest-grossing women's fight of all-time should it happen. There is a lot of time, and two upcoming fights, separating Cyborg from her dream, but her plans are out in the open.

2019 could give combat sports fans a superfight they didn't know they wanted—until now.
