Tottenham Transfer News: PSG Rumoured to Target Christian Eriksen in £100M Deal

Tom SunderlandMay 3, 2018

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly lining up a £100 million move for Tottenham Hotspur talisman Christian Eriksen as they seek to make their next leap in challenging for the UEFA Champions League crown.

Thomas Tuchel is set to take over at the Parc des Princes this summer, and Tony Banks of the Daily Express wrote that Eriksen has taken focus as the target he wants to improve his midfield options.

But Spurs aren't likely to be open to the thought of parting ways with their puppeteer, the man who has so often been their inspiration this season and propelled striker team-mate Harry Kane to another prolific term.

Eriksen, 26, picked up his 10th assist of the Premier League season in Monday's 2-0 win over Watford, which put the midfield catalyst in an elite bracket of Tottenham goal contributors, per Sky Sports Statto:

In April alone, the Denmark international demonstrated his seniority among Tottenham's ranks with goals against Manchester City and Chelsea. He had already scored against the Citizens and Manchester United earlier in the campaign.

Those traits were evident in Europe, too, as Eriksen bagged important goals against Real Madrid and Juventus in the UEFA Champions League, and the BBC's John Bennett rated his talent after assisting against United in a recent FA Cup defeat:

PSG have a fine selection of midfielders but haven't been able to crack the continental conquest despite their extravagant spending, and veteran Thiago Motta, 35, looks set to depart once his contract expires this summer.

Julian Draxler, 24, and Giovani Lo Celso, 22, can each operate in attacking midfield but not with the same proficiency as Eriksen, who has illustrated that as his best position in north London, per Football Radars:

Adrien Rabiot, 23, and Javier Pastore, 28, are also capable middle men in Paris, but Eriksen has shown in five years with Tottenham that he's a mature force boasting consistency above any of those existing options.

French football writer Andrew Gibney also recently attested to midfield being a position impending appointment Tuchel is targeting for renovation:

Similar to outside interest in Kane and the attention that once took Gareth Bale to Real in 2013, Spurs will fight to keep Mauricio Pochettino's best weapons, which two-time club Player of the Year Eriksen is.

Eriksen has a contract in north London that runs until the summer of 2020, but his employers will want to extend those terms if it means putting an end to PSG's interest this summer.
