Chelsea Transfer News: AC Milan Target Alvaro Morata in Latest Rumours

Rory MarsdenMay 3, 2018

AC Milan have reportedly joined Juventus in making Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata one of their key summer targets.

According to Tuttosport, Rossoneri technical director Massimiliano Mirabelli is keen to go back in for the Spain international after Chelsea beat Milan to his signing last summer (via Calciomercato.com).

Premium Sport (via football-italia.com) reported Mirabelli plans to sign a striker who will "bring San Siro down," although they stopped short of noting Morata by name.

A disappointing debut season with the Blues has led to suggestions that Chelsea could be open to selling Morata, 25, if the right offer comes in for him.

The former Real Madrid man made a fast start to his Chelsea career after his £58 million move to Stamford Bridge, as he netted six goals in his first six Premier League games.

However, since netting a hat-trick against Stoke City in September, he has scored just five more goals in the English top flight in 23 appearances.

That is not an acceptable return for the lead striker at a club with designs on winning the Premier League.

By comparison, Diego Costa reached 20 Premier League goals for the Blues in both 2014-15 and 2016-17, seasons when Chelsea finished as champions.

Morata has not found his feet in the Premier League and may be open to a move back to Serie A. He spent two seasons in Italy with Juventus and thrived, and Calciomercato's report indicated Morata would prefer a return to the Old Lady if he does leave Chelsea this summer.

It will likely all be moot in the summer, though, as the Blues are surely not going to give up on a striker they paid an initial £58 million for after just one season.
