Luka Doncic Won't Work Out Ahead of NBA Draft Due to Real Madrid Commitments

Mike ChiariMay 2, 2018

Luka Doncic, the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft, will not work out for teams prior to the draft due to his commitments with Real Madrid.

Doncic's agent, Bill Duffy, told Sean Deveney of Sporting News Tuesday the Slovenian guard will be busy with the Euroleague Final Four and the Spanish League playoffs.

Duffy said, "He is committed to Real Madrid, all the way through."

The Euroleague Final Four is scheduled for May 18 and May 20, and the Spanish League playoffs will take place from May to June.

While NBA teams would undoubtedly love to get an up-close look at Doncic, Duffy isn't concerned about the situation: "I don't think [not seeing him work out] will be an issue. Playing in the Euroleague speaks for itself. What he has been able to do, it speaks to both the talent and preparedness for Luka. He has had a different level of experience than most of his peers. Euroleague is the next step to playing in the NBA."

Doncic's resume already speaks for itself. The 19-year-old is averaging 14.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game this season against a high level of competition professionally.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman ranked Doncic as the No. 2 prospect in the 2018 NBA draft behind Arizona center DeAndre Ayton in his latest big board.

Wasserman also projected Doncic as the No. 2 overall pick to the Memphis Grizzlies in his most recent mock draft.

The 2018 NBA draft will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on June 21.
