With Sam Darnold now set to be the next New York Jets' franchise quarterback, the team announced on Tuesday he will be wearing No. 14:

It's the same jersey number Darnold wore during his two seasons as USC's starting quarterback.

The last Jets quarterback who donned the No. 14 was Ryan Fitzpatrick—who is currently playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—from 2015-16.

At No. 3 overall, Darnold became the highest-drafted quarterback taken by the Jets since NFL-AFL merger in 1970. The 20-year-old threw for 4,143 yards and 26 touchdowns in 14 games at USC last season.

The Jets have finished last in the AFC East in each of the previous two seasons with 5-11 records.
