Redskins WR Trey Quinn on Being Mr. Irrelevant: 'Most Relevant, Irrelevant Ever'

Tim DanielsMay 1, 2018

Washington Redskins wide receiver Trey Quinn said being this year's Mr. Irrelevant as the final pick of the 2018 NFL draft will provide motivation heading into his rookie season.

On Tuesday, Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk passed along comments Quinn made to KPLC about his past success and future plans.

"It's the most ironic name for me," he said. "I went through my career and I set every record that I stepped foot in at every place. I think I might be the most relevant, irrelevant ever. I have a chip on my shoulder. Everybody's going to see it."

Quinn failed to make much of an impact across two seasons at LSU before transferring to SMU. After sitting out the 2016 campaign, he led the country with 114 catches to go along with 1,236 yards and 13 touchdowns during his first season with the Mustangs before declaring for the NFL draft.

Pro Football Focus' draft feed further highlighted his terrific numbers:

While most seventh-round selections are forced into an extended battle for a roster spot, Quinn should have a great chance to make the Redskins.

Washington features Jamison Crowder, Josh Doctson and Paul Richardson as its top three wideouts, but the depth chart is wide open after that. The rookie should battle Brian Quick for the No. 4 WR role, which is a winnable competition that could lead to regular snaps in his first NFL season.

Ultimately, based on his 2017 stats, it's a bit surprising Quinn lasted as long as he did, but now he's got a chance to become one of the most impactful Mr. Irrelevants to date.
