WNBA, USTA, More Women's Leagues Band Together with SheIS Initiative

Adam WellsMay 1, 2018

A group of eight women's sports leagues have joined forces to create a new initiative called SheIS.

Per the Associated Press, the movement is designed to help the leagues increase resources, viewership and attendance.

Leagues included in the SheIS initiative are the WNBA, U.S. Tennis Association, National Pro Fastpitch and Canadian Women's Hockey.

"Each commissioner has agreed to come to one and another's events," WNBA President Lisa Borders said. "Women have to support women before you ask other people to support you. I'll buy a ticket to a hockey game in Canada or a fast-pitch softball game."

Borders also noted the initiative is "a social media campaign" right now, but it will grow because each of the league commissioners signed a pledge to promote it and filmed public service announcements that began airing Tuesday.

WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon, who also signed the pledge, tweeted out one of the PSA videos:

Brenda Andress, commissioner of the Canadian Women's Hockey League, is credited with creating the initiative last November because she "wanted to create some type of program or challenge to bring women together that was born out of positivity."
