Report: Antonio Conte Linked to Napoli with Maurizio Sarri Joining Chelsea

Rory MarsdenApr 30, 2018

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri could reportedly swap jobs in the summer.

According to the Italian club's official radio station, Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (via Football Italia), Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is eyeing a move for Sarri to replace the likely outgoing Conte, while Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has the former Italy manager as his "primary target."

Sarri's Napoli have been hugely impressive this season but look set to miss out on the Serie A title.

Their 3-0 defeat to Fiorentina on Sunday saw them drop four points behind league leaders Juventus with three games of the season remaining.

Sarri, 59, has been in charge at the Partenopei since 2015 and has hugely enhanced his reputation.

Per Football Italia's report, Abramovich would be prepared to shell out the €8 million (£7 million) needed to release Sarri from his Napoli contract, and Conte could go the other way despite Simone Inzaghi, Rafael Benitez, Marco Giampaolo and Unai Emery also being linked with the top job at the Stadio San Paolo.

Conte, 48, still has a year remaining on his Chelsea deal, but it has long been expected he will depart Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, per Jason Burt in the Telegraph.

The former Juve boss led Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2016-17, his debut season in charge at the club. But the Blues have already surrendered the championship to Manchester City and look set to finish outside the top four this term.

It does look like a change is needed, but Conte could still bow out on a high as Chelsea face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 19.
