Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Daredevils by 13 runs in the 2018 Indian Premier League at the Maharashtra Cricket Association's International Stadium in Pune on Monday.

Chennai amassed a respectable 211 runs, thanks largely to Shane Watson hitting 78 and MS Dhoni blasting 51 late on. Meanwhile, Ambati Rayudu added 41 runs to stay clear in the race for the orange cap.

Rishabh Pant tried to keep things interesting late on, adding 79 runs for Delhi, but it wasn't enough.

Watson wasted no time putting runs on the board but also had the officials to thank for his impressive tally. The 36-year-old narrowly avoided being ruled out for lbw before posting a swift 50.

It took a fine catch from Liam Plunkett to finally send Watson from the crease. Even so, the damage had been done to the Daredevils, who soon saw Dhoni dominate.

The captain smashed seven deliveries to the boundary, including five sixes. By the end, Dhoni had surpassed the half-century mark in style.

Team-mate Faf du Plessis, who earlier had notched 33 runs of his own, praised Dhoni's hitting power, per ESPNcricinfo:

Like Du Plessis, Rayudu also enjoyed a solid performance in front of the wicket. The orange cap leader amassed five fours before he was run out.

Even so, Rayudu has maintained a healthy lead over Sunrisers Hyderabad star Kane Williamson among the league's most prolific run scorers.

Pant briefly had Delhi believing a comeback was on, despite his confusion leading to skipper Shreyas Iyerย being run out. The Daredevils had already lost Colin Munro, who started by sending a few balls to the boundary before being caught out by KM Asif.

Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell walked after getting bowled by Ravindra Jadeja. The latter put in a rare busy display for the Super Kings, per Cricbuzz:

Pant was still in and soon surpassed 50 with a fine shot to the boundary. He followed it with a six and another four to keep Delhi's faint hopes alive.

A seventh four from Pant gave those hopes a boost. The Daredevils now needed 50 runs from just over two overs but soon lost Pant to a catch from Jadeja.ย Lungi Ngidi claimed the wicket, his first in the IPL.

Vijay Shankar hit 53 to make things interesting, but Chennai held on.

A sixth win of the season means Chennai's play-off hopes stay strong. By contrast, the Daredevils already look out of the picture.
