Report: Alfred Blue, Texans Agree to Contract; Team Didn't Draft a RB

Timothy RappApr 30, 2018

The Houston Texans reportedly signed running back Alfred Blue to a one-year contract Monday, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle

Blue likely will serve as the team's third-string running back, with Lamar Miller entrenched as the starter and second-year back D'Onta Foreman likely to serve a larger role as the backup this season.

Foreman is recovering from a torn Achilles, however, leaving Blue with potentially a larger role until he is back in action. The Texans did not address the running back position in the 2018 NFL draft at AT&T Stadium this past week, so retaining Blue for depth was an important move.

Blue, 27, rushed 71 times for 262 yards and a score in 2017, adding seven receptions for 54 yards. The 2014 sixth-round pick has spent his entire career with Houston, rushing for 1,908 and six scores and catching 49 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns.

Houston's ground game was a bit disappointing last season, as the team finished 14th in rushing offense (115.1 yards per game) and tied for 14th in yards per attempt (4.1). A full season of Foreman would likely help, though.

Blue will compete with Tyler Ervin for third-string duties. He's also a solid special teams player, offering the Texans utility.
